Asimismo, cre\u00f3 una escuela de teatro para ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes. Varela dirigi\u00f3 grandes \u00e9xitos de comedia musical como \u00d3pera do Malandro, Mi bella dama &nbsp;y \u00bfQui\u00e9n le teme a Italia Fausta?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el a\u00f1o 2016, la Asociaci\u00f3n General de Autores del Uruguay (AGADU) realiz\u00f3 un homenaje a Omar Varela por su trayectoria y en dicha oportunidad, el dramaturgo repas\u00f3 su propia carrera. \u201cEmpec\u00e9 a estudiar teatro con Carlos Aguilera, en plena dictadura, en General Flores e Industrias. M\u00e1s tarde, hice la Escuela de Arte Dram\u00e1tico, di examen para entrar a la Comedia y no logr\u00e9 el puntaje. Y dije: no es. Nunca busqu\u00e9 nada, las cosas siempre vinieron hacia m\u00ed. Hay que saber elegir. Toda mi carrera fue y sigue siendo una investigaci\u00f3n. No me queda nada por hacer en teatro. Siempre fui muy feliz. Tuve maestros formidables como Alberto Candeau, Estela Medina, Estela Castro. Trabaj\u00e9 con todos los actores que quer\u00eda trabajar, con muchos m\u00fasicos, y muchos a\u00f1os con Nelson Mancebo.
